We are proud to announce the release of code_saturne v9.1.0 (December 30, 2025), the latest evolution of code_saturne, the powerful open-source CFD software developed by EDF for fluid flow, heat transfer, and multiphysics simulation.
This new version delivers significant improvements in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), Lagrangian particle tracking, heat transfer modeling, and fluid-structure interaction (FSI), reinforcing code_saturne as a reference platform for advanced numerical simulation.
Key Highlights of code_saturne 9.1
- Log-normal particle diameter distribution in the Lagrangian module
- New cs_mesh_cut operator for advanced mesh cell cutting by planes
- Anisotropic conductivity support in the CDO-based heat transfer solver
- Runge-Kutta time integration schemes
- Enhanced fluid-structure interaction with external solver support
- Major improvements in rough wall functions and atmospheric modeling
- Cooling tower module coupled with Lagrangian particle tracking
- New Soil-Plant-Atmosphere Continuum model for environmental CFD applications
- Full transition away from legacy Fortran user functions
- Extensive numerical improvements, architectural upgrades, and bug fixes
Version 9.1 also introduces modern C++ data structures (cs::array, cs::span, cs::mdspan), rewritten advection schemes, improved turbulence and thermal stratification modeling, and enhanced stability for Lagrangian stochastic methods.
Compatibility with previous checkpoints is maintained, ensuring smooth upgrades for existing users.
